I-840 Lane Closure for Bridge Repair to Last Months

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has initiated an extensive lane closure on Interstate I-840 to facilitate repairs, expected to last three months. The closure is necessitated by the need to address damage to a bridge located at Mile Marker 28 in Thompson’s Station.
The bridge sustained damage during maintenance work conducted by a CSX crew on the railroad beneath it. Following a comprehensive inspection, TDOT deemed one section of the bridge safe for passage but opted to close the right lane of the road until essential repairs are completed.
To expedite the repair process, TDOT has engaged Bell and Associates Construction under an emergency bridge repair contract. Crews were set to execute a traffic shift on Tuesday night, with the objective of reopening the bridge to one lane of traffic by the next morning.
“The diversion at Exit 23 for State Route 246 / Carters Creek Pike will remain in place until traffic can be shifted overnight tonight,” TDOT explained. “Once the lane restriction is safely in place, TDOT will coordinate with Bell Construction and CSX during what will likely be a three-month-long repair project.”
Throughout the repair period, one lane of travel will be open, although temporary full closures of the bridge may occur during construction activities.

TWRA Cracking Down on Drinking

Alcohol possession and consumption will be prohibited on Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Wildlife Management areas statewide, effective April 15 with the exception of designated areas. Alcohol is only permitted at designated TWRA campgrounds and on public waters bordering or within a WMA. Drunken-disorderly conduct is also prohibited.
This rule applies to all user groups, including hunters, hikers, off-highway (OHV) drivers and passengers, and other WMA users. Signs will be posted on the WMA noting that alcohol is prohibited. TWRA wildlife officers will be issuing citations for alcohol possession and use that is not in compliance with the regulations. Tennessee State Driving Under the Influence laws also apply on local roads and managed trails when operating OHVs.
The rule change is being implemented due to high rates of intoxicated trail riding on WMAs and frequent accidents where alcohol was a contributing factor. The TWRA is committed to public safety and is focused on keeping public lands family friendly and safe for all Tennesseans.
