Watch The Partial Eclipse at Riverwalk Park (Glasses Provided!)

From the Columbia Parks & Recreation Department’s Facebook Page:

Join us for a Spectacular Celestial Event!

You're invited to witness the mesmerizing phenomenon of a Partial Solar Eclipse! Mark your calendars for Monday, April 8th at Riverwalk Park and prepare to be enchanted as the moon gracefully obscures a portion of the sun, casting an ethereal shadow over our skies.

We will be hosting an information session at the Farmers Market from 12:00pm until 12:30pm and we will be providing eclipse glasses for no charge.

The eclipse will start at ~12:44pm and last until ~3:21pm.

Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or simply curious about the wonders of the universe, this is an opportunity not to be missed. Bring along your friends, family, and anyone eager to marvel at the beauty of nature's cosmic dance.

Columbia Family Honors Son’s Memory and Fights Stigma Linked To Addiction

For the last seven years, the Mark and Karen Witthauer have released balloons in honor of their son, Greg, who died in 2017 from a drug overdose. He fought addiction from the age of 15 and went to 9 different drug rehab centers. He would’ve been 31 years old this year.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse reports throughout the country they’ve seen a major increase in opioid related overdose deaths. In Tennessee, the TVI reports about 70,000 Tennesseans are addicted to opioids.

Every one of these numbers represents an individual person and their family who has been impacted. The Witthauers started Always Have Heart in Greg’s memory. It serves as a resource for other families going through similar situations. They feel that if they can help be the one supportive voice to families and survivors of drug addiction they are honoring their son’s life.

If you have a loved one who is struggling with addiction, take some time to connect with Mark and Karen. Mark says, “Reach out. Don’t let our tragedy happen to your family.”
