Landmark Ceramics to Create 78 New Jobs in Mt. Pleasant Expansion

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, along with Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter, and Landmark Ceramics UST, Inc. officials, revealed on Friday the company's ambitious $71.9 million investment plan to expand its tile production facility in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee.

The expansion initiative by Landmark Ceramics aims to introduce an additional 78 job opportunities at its North Main Street site, contributing to employment growth in Maury County.

This expansion effort in Maury County will substantially increase Landmark Ceramics' operational space by over 400,000 square feet, elevating its annual production capacity to an impressive 80 million square feet.

Moreover, the project encompasses the establishment of a new logistics hub, characterized by modernity, high automation, and cutting-edge technology. This hub is poised to optimize quality, efficiency, accuracy, and precision across all logistics functions at Landmark Ceramics.

As a subsidiary of the Italy-based Gruppo Concorde, Landmark Ceramics UST, Inc. stands as a wholly American enterprise specializing in top-tier porcelain tile production and marketing. Located solely in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, the company is dedicated to delivering high-quality ceramic tiles to its clientele.

Tennessee Wildlife Authorities Respond to Second Alligator Sighting in Six Months

For the second time in just half a year, an alligator has been discovered in a Tennessee waterway. Last September, it was in Rhea County. This time, it was an angler who stumbled upon the reptile in Norris Lake in Union County, situated just north of Knoxville, on March 18th.

Initially, when a wildlife officer received a call about an alligator being caught by a fisherman, it seemed like a prank. However, upon arriving at the scene, the officer was indeed greeted by the angler, who presented a 3 to 4-foot-long alligator. The reptile was transferred to the Little Ponderosa Zoo in Anderson County, where it will be temporarily housed until a suitable permanent arrangement can be made, as stated by Matt Cameron, a spokesperson for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

The circumstances surrounding how the alligator ended up in Norris Lake remain unclear. According to Cameron, alligators are only naturally found in Southwest Tennessee due to range expansion from southern states. However, the alligator discovered in Norris Lake was likely brought from another state and released into Tennessee waters.

Concerns about the safety of swimming in Norris Lake have been raised, but Cameron reassures the public that it's unlikely there are more alligators in the area. Nevertheless, vigilance is advised, and any sightings should be reported to the authorities for proper handling.

Cameron emphasizes that not only is it illegal to possess an alligator in Tennessee, but East Tennessee is also an unsuitable habitat for them. Releasing alligators into this region poses risks to both human safety and the local ecosystem. Despite their relatively small size, alligators can become increasingly hazardous as they grow and establish themselves in unfamiliar environments.

This isn't the first encounter Tennessee has had with alligators. In the past, TWRA officers successfully captured stray alligators in Rhea County and Bradley County, delivering them to appropriate facilities such as the Chattanooga Zoo.
