Spring Hill Fire Department Launches New Fire Academy Program to Bolster Staffing

SHFD Station No. 4, scheduled to begin construction later this year. Estimated completion: fall of 2025.
Spring Hill Fire Department started its latest fire academy program this week, aiming to enlist 15 new firefighters to address various challenges within the department. With the burgeoning population of both the city and county, the demand for additional emergency services resources, including staffing, equipment, and a new fire hall, continues to escalate.
Fire Chief Graig Temple hailed the commencement of the department's first comprehensive fire academy, with 13 recruits sponsored by the FEMA Department of Homeland Security SAFER grant. Temple highlighted the diverse composition of the group, which notably includes the city's first two female firefighters.
City Administrator Pam Caskie emphasized the significance of the ongoing special census drive, urging citizens to participate as it could lead to taxpayer savings and bolster funding for crucial areas like public safety. Caskie cautioned about the potential for a property tax increase if participation remains low, urging residents to encourage their neighbors to complete the census promptly.
During its regular meeting on Monday, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved several measures pertaining to the fire department. These actions encompassed the acceptance of a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant to finance 15 additional firefighters, alongside the awarding of a contract to Chris Woods Construction Company for the construction of Fire Station No. 4, slated for Duplex Road.
Construction for Fire Station No. 4 is slated to commence later this year, with an anticipated completion date set for the fall of 2025.
