U-turn in 7th Congressional District: Mark Green Returns to Reelection Race

In news from the district just north of Columbia…

U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Clarksville, has reversed his decision to retire from Congress and will seek reelection despite announcing his strong desire to leave just two weeks ago. The unexpected turnaround follows encouragement from constituents, colleagues, and former President Donald Trump, who urged Green to reconsider. Citing a sense of duty to his country, Green expressed his commitment to running for reelection to address the border crisis. His initial retirement plan, part of a trend among high-ranking House Republicans, prompted speculation and calls from fellow Tennessee Republicans to reassess. Former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry, a Democrat, criticized Green's change of heart, asserting that he now pursues a position he claimed he didn't want, solely based on party directives.

Tennessee Legislators Propose Bold Measures to Curb DUI Incidents

Every year, drunk driving incidents take the lives of approximately 10,000 individuals in the United States, accounting for a third of all traffic-related fatalities. To combat this issue, Tennessee has introduced a legislative approach.

Named the Tennessee Prevention of Drunk Driving Act (HB 2845/SB 2636), this bill aims to curb driving under the influence through unique measures. Among its proposals are prohibiting the sale of cold, refrigerated beer by businesses and imposing limits on the number of drinks restaurants and bars can serve to patrons. Feedback from the community suggests skepticism about the bill's effectiveness in preventing drunk driving, yet many acknowledge it as a positive step forward.
