On Leap Day (2/29), the groundbreaking ceremony for the New Nissan Stadium took place with Tennessee Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk, Governor Bill Lee, Mayor Freddie O’Connell, and over 700 community members in attendance. This marked the commencement of construction for the state-of-the-art facility, scheduled to open in 2027.

Hosted by “Voice of the Titans” Mike Keith, the event included remarks from various speakers, including Cathy Bender, Chair of Metro Nashville Sports Authority, Jérémie Papin, Chairperson of Nissan Americas, Burke Nihill, President and CEO of the Tennessee Titans, Adams Strunk, Lee, O’Connell, Adolpho Birch III, SVP, Chief External and League Affairs Officer of the Tennessee Titans, and country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.

Bender emphasized the significance of sports in Nashville, stating that while the city is known for music, sports are its heartbeat. Nihill expressed that the new stadium would be a reflection of the community, representing the character, diversity, and audacity of Nashville and Tennessee.

After the speeches, the speakers participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking by turning the dirt. The Tennessee State University Aristocrat of Bands provided a drumroll for the occasion and performed during the ceremony.

The New Nissan Stadium, located on Nashville’s East Bank, will cover 1.8 million square feet. It will feature a circular-shaped, high-tech ETFE translucent roof and improved sightlines, providing spectators with a closer view of the field compared to the current stadium. Exterior terraces and porches will offer panoramic views of the city and serve as social spaces during events and non-event days. The facility will also include a 12,000 square foot community space available for year-round use.

A waitlist for Personal Seat Licenses (PSLs) for the new stadium is now open at newnissanstadium.com. Apart from hosting Titans and TSU football games, the stadium aims to attract major events like Super Bowls, Final Fours, College Football Playoffs, and Wrestlemania.

The Tennessee Builders Alliance (TBA), comprising Nashville-based I.C.F. Builders, Brentwood-based Polk & Associates, Turner Construction Company, and AECOM Hunt, is serving as the construction manager for the project. With over 55 years of NFL stadium construction experience, the team has a history of building iconic sports facilities. Turner and AECOM Hunt have successfully worked on 17 of the 30 most recently completed NFL stadium projects. Those interested in working on the project or exploring workforce opportunities can express interest at tnbuildersalliance.com.

Columbia Police Department’s Officer of the Month

Chief Jeremy Alsup awarded Field Training Officer Connor Reeves with the Columbia Police Department’s Officer of the Month for January 2024.

On January 17th, 2024, FTO. Reeves initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle fail to stop for a traffic light. The driver, an intoxicated female, was placed under arrest by FTO. Reeves for driving under the influence. FTO. Reeves investigation also revealed that the driver had two children (two-month-old & 18-month-old) left at home alone without any food or water. Subsequently, the two-month-old was admitted to the hospital for dehydration. FTO. Reeves charged the driver with additional charges for two counts of Child Abuse and Endangerment.

Due to FTO. Reeves’s proactive approach to policing, he was able to remove an intoxicated driver off the streets of Columbia and ensure the safety of two children.

Because of FTO. Reeves’s efforts, he has been named the Columbia Police Department's Officer of the Month for January 2024.

Thank you for a job well done.
