First Fridays Returns to Downtown Columbia with Expanded Youth Market

From Columbia Main Street’s post

Your favorite monthly community event returns in April and runs through December.

First Fridays takes place on the first Friday of every month (no exceptions) from 5:00–8:00 p.m. in downtown Columbia. We are hoping for beautiful weather all season long... However, if an event is canceled due to severe weather, many of our downtown merchants, restaurants, and bars will remain open for those who still want to enjoy an evening in Downtown Columbia!

Each month will feature a fun T H E M E to give you, attendee, something extra to enjoy!! We encourage everyone to join in by dressing up, decorating, or simply coming excited to see the theme come to life. We can’t wait to see you back downtown this season!

Columbia’s First Fridays Vendor Applications are NOW OPEN!

We’re accepting all types of vendors for this season — Crafters, Bakers, Non-Profits, Local Businesses, Food Trucks & more! If you’ve been thinking about joining us downtown, now’s your chance to apply.

Calling ALL Young Entrepreneurs (under 19)!

If you make it, create it, or bake it ... this is your time to test the market! We’ve expanded our Youth Market space this year and are ready to hype up the next generation of business owners. Parents, friends, and family, help us spread the word and encourage your young entrepreneurs to apply!

Musicians & Buskers — we’ve got a spot for you too! We’ll have dedicated space for acoustic acts AND a BIG stage featuring amplified live music. If you’re ready to bring the vibes to downtown Columbia, apply!

Our Mini Car Show is BACK! If you’ve got a classic, cool, or super dope ride you’d be willing to display downtown from 5–8 PM, we want you to sign up!

Applications are available on our website and are due by the 14th of the month prior to each event. Vendors are selected through committee review, so not all applicants will be approved each month, but we do our best to support and include as many local vendors as possible. There is a small vendor fee with two options: a standard fee with a Certificate of Insurance, or a higher fee option if you do not have a Certificate of Insurance.

Spots will fill up so don’t wait! Tag someone who needs to apply and we’ll see you at First Fridays in downtown Columbia!

3/4: Polk Residence Historical Marker Unveiling

The City of Columbia invites the public to attend a special unveiling ceremony for a historical marker commemorating the former residence of President James K. Polk and his wife, Sarah Childress Polk.

Located at what is now the parking lot of Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home, the site is distinct from the President James K. Polk Home & Museum and recognizes a different property the Polks owned and occupied during their married life.

The home underwent several renovations over the years after it was sold by the Polks. The images above show the house prior to its demolition in 1961.

Community members are encouraged to attend and help honor this important part of Columbia’s history.
