Come Celebrate Our Heroes at Columbia’s Free No Capes Music Festival

As we mark 25 years since September 11, this weekend offers another opportunity to pause, remember and show appreciation for the people who serve our communities every day.

That spirit of appreciation will be at the heart of the No Capes Music Festival on Saturday, a free community event featuring live music, food, vendors and family activities in honor of first responders and others who serve.

The No Capes Music Festival will take place Saturday, September 12, from 1 to 10 PM at 2120 Brookmeade Dr. E., bringing together local music, vendors, food and family activities for a free community event honoring first responders and others who serve.

The festival is a celebration of police officers, firefighters, EMTs, military members, veterans, 911 dispatchers, linemen and all of the other people who spend their days helping, protecting and serving their communities.

The goal is simple: come out, have a good time and let these people know that their work matters.

There will be a large stage with live music throughout the afternoon and evening, featuring five local bands: Delta Rd., Catchfire, Rebel & Lace, Second Chance Bluegrass and Yonder Grove.

There will also be a row of vendor tents, with each vendor offering giveaways for kids. Marco’s Pizza will be selling pizza throughout the event, and families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and stay for as much of the day as they like.

And admission is free.

The festival was organized by Santa Fe resident and Marco’s Pizza partner Kevin Scott, who grew up in Maury County and comes from a family with generations of local roots.

Scott has organized the Rides & Pies car shows in the same parking lot, events that have drawn large crowds. This time, he wanted to create something specifically focused on giving back to the people who serve the community while also giving local kids a fun place to spend the day.

Scott is particularly passionate about helping young people see police officers as people they can trust and turn to for help.

“I just want to throw a party for our frontliners and our kids,” Scott said.

He described himself simply as “an old country boy with a dream to let the frontliners know we appreciate them and to give our kids a good time.”

The event is being supported by local sponsors including Hyundai of Columbia, T-Mobile, Marco’s Pizza, Amped Sound & Lighting, BMC Metalworks, Sunbelt Rentals, Benton Nissan, Waste Warriors, Vector Security, Roberts Toyota and CopyCats Printing.

Scott emphasized that the event is not being organized as a money-making venture. The funds raised are going toward the cost of putting on the festival.

Bring a chair. Bring the kids. Listen to some local music. Grab some pizza. Let the kids collect some giveaways.

Most importantly, come out and let the people who serve this community know that Columbia and Maury County appreciate them.

Parking will be available in the event lot at 2120 Brookmeade Dr. E., where Belk, Dunham’s Sports, T-Mobile and Marco’s Pizza are located. Once that lot fills, additional parking will be available across the street in the old Columbia Mall parking lot.

The No Capes Music Festival is Saturday, September 12, from 1 to 10 PM. There is no admission fee, and everyone is invited.
